FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions & Maintenance Guide
Everything you need to know to keep your dryer running safely and efficiently.
Why is proper dryer maintenance so important?
As a dedicated member of the community, our top priority is educating homeowners and business owners on the dangers of poorly maintained dryers. According to the US Fire Administration (FEMA), clothes dryer fires account for about 15,600 structure fires, 15 deaths, and 400 injuries annually. Proper maintenance and regular vent cleanings are the most effective ways to prevent these hazardous blockages and keep your property safe.
What are the warning signs of a clogged dryer vent?
There are several key symptoms that indicate your vent may have a dangerous lint blockage. Call us to have your dryer serviced if you notice any of the following:
- Your dryer is hot to the touch.
- Clothes take a long time to dry (more than 50 minutes).
- Lint is collecting on the inside of the dryer door.
- You smell a slight burning odor while clothes are drying.
- There is excess humidity inside your dryer door or laundry room.
- Your lint screen is empty after a cycle, or lint is collecting on the back side of the screen.
- You notice excessive lint on dark-colored clothing.
- Your clothes smell musty or moldy after a cycle.
What are the benefits of a clean dryer vent?

How often should I have my dryer vent professionally cleaned?
Most dryer vents should be professionally cleaned about every 1–2 years, but the ideal frequency depends on your setup and usage. Longer vents, multiple turns, heavy laundry use, or pets can lead to faster lint buildup and may require more frequent service. If your dryer takes longer than normal to dry clothes, feels unusually hot, or creates excess humidity, it’s time to have it inspected.

Important Dryer Vent Terminology to Know
Keeping your dryer vent clean provides several incredible benefits for your home and wallet:
- Digital Anemometer: A device used to measure airflow. We always take a reading before and after a cleaning.
- Dryer Exhaust System (Dryer Vent): The complete system of pipes, elbows, and caps that moves moist air and lint into the atmosphere.
- Transition Duct/Tube: The pipe connecting your dryer to the exhaust system. It should be made of non-flammable material and kept as short as possible.
- Termination Point: The exterior end of the exhaust system (on a side wall or roof). It should never end in an enclosed space like an attic or garage.
- Rotary Brush: The specialized tool we use to travel the length of the vent and scrub lint from the inside of the pipe.
- Carbon Monoxide: Created by gas dryers. A clean vent ensures this dangerous gas is safely vented outside, not into your home.
